World Poker Tour & World Series of Poker :
World Poker Tour is a name that will always be remembered
for bringing the game of Poker into the homes of millions around
the world.
The World Poker Tour made its debut on the Travel channel on Sunday March 31st and now moves to its regular time slot at 9 pm EST on Wednesday nights. The unique concept of filming the final tables of some of the major poker events around the world, with the aid of a camera on the felt to let those viewers know exactly what cards the players are holding, makes the game that so much more exciting. You can catch the final table action from some of the biggest Poker Tournaments that were held last year and filmed exclusively for the World Poker Tour Series which will consist of 13 events in the inaugural season. The Travel Channel wasted no time in snapping up this entertainment and it has now been hailed as one of the most successful programs on the Travel Channel with over 5 million viewers watching some of the televised events.
The History
The World Poker was created by Casino mogul Lyle Berman and TV Producer Steve Lipscomb. The mission statement of the WPT is "to establish poker as a significant televised mainstream sport by broadcasting top poker tournaments around the world under the premier brand of the World Poker Tour." With over 50 million poker players in the US and another 100 million around the world, they knew there would be great interest in a televised poker tournament if it could be produced in a way that would be entertaining and unique.
After viewing the first show I think that they have succeeded
in bringing a unique Poker viewing experience to those of us that
play poker as well for those with no poker knowledge who may be
tuning in to see what it's all about. The show was interesting
and exciting.
A Learning Experience
Whether you are an aspiring tournament player of a seasoned veteran
player you can learn a lot from watching the show. In past televised
tournaments you usually only got to see the players hand if there
was a showdown. When you watch the World Poker Tour you get to
see each player's cards for every hand. This is a great way to
see how the pros play the game.
As the World Poker Tour continues through it's 5th season you can follow along here on PokerPages.com with the up to date information with our full schedules, reports, interviews and stories of the events that the WPT will be visiting. So come back often as we keep you informed of all that is happening.
